The Life in Words Project

A funeral is not a day in a lifetime, it is a lifetime in a day

From the moment a Funeral Celebrant takes that first step into a family home, they begin to weave the story of the life of a loved one.

Each story is unique, just as each of us is unique, and each funeral script gives a glimpse into a life and a specific time in our history.

The aim of this project is to preserve those scripts for researchers, be they Social Historians, Anthropologists, Philosophers, Linguists or Family Historians.

Each of these scripts holds a rich layer of information, which will enable in-depth studies and aid researchers, and students, in their understanding of every day life, and the multifaceted, and changing world in which we live.

Each anonymised script will be fully searchable, and is initially hosted by the University of Birmingham, with the aim being to store them in perpetuity, for future generations.
